Synopsis

Malik Carter grew up dirt poor, training on a cracked outdoor court while his single mother worked three jobs to keep him fed—until an NBA scout secretly makes him the number one draft pick. But a month of sealed pre-draft testing leaves him unreachable, and his hometown decides the worst: that he's been arrested for prostitution. His own uncle, aunt, and cousin turn the whole church against him and his mother, stripping them of dignity, stealing from them, and even scalding her hand to punish his "lies."

When the truth finally breaks, every person who spat on his family scrambles to grovel—but Malik's fight isn't over. At his own rookie celebration, the father who abandoned his pregnant mother years ago shows up flaunting a new wife and a stepson chasing the same spotlight. As the draft countdown hits zero, everyone who ever doubted, humiliated, or betrayed Malik and his mother is about to learn exactly who they were dealing with.
