Chile and Peru’s football associations are fighting in the International Court of Arbitration for Sport to exclude Ecuador from the 2022 World Cup.

Essentially the case is about fullbacks Byron Castillo, whose eligibility to play in the World Cup qualifier is contested by both associations. World governing body FIFA again rejected Chile and Peru’s appeals on September 16 and upheld a decision by its own disciplinary committee.

This was the conclusion”that the player has permanent citizenship of Ecuador in accordance with Article 5(1) of the FIFA Statutes StatutesEcuador will host Qatar in the opening game on November 20.

De Cas announced on Friday (September 30, 2022) that the arbitration procedure had started and was at an early stage. Peru and Chile both hope to secure Ecuador’s place in the final.
