The BJP-led government of Uttar Pradesh appointed him as the head of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Board in March 2019.
In January 2021, Raju Srivastav posted a music video on social media where he criticized the creators and actors of the web series Tandav for allegedly hurting Hindu feelings by mocking Hindu religion and Hindu gods. In response, people on Twitter pointed out Srivastav’s double standards. Filmmaker Vinod Kapri and others have shared a number of videos from Srivastav’s comedy shows, in which he pokes fun at Hindu gods and the Indian holy epic Ramayana. Kapri said Srivastav made fun of the Hindu god Brahma and made jokes about meeting actress Madhuri Dixit and his white beard turning red.
Rohan Joshi, a stand-up comedian and public figure, said in September 2022 that Srivastav uses every chance he gets to put down new comedians and shame their comedy as offensive no matter where he speaks. He also said that Raju Srivastav “might have told a few good jokes, but he didn’t know anything about the spirit of comedy or about defending someone’s right to say something even if you’re not. Okay”.
Sunil Pal, a comedian, considered Srivastav his teacher. Pal said, “After Shrivastav died, “He helped juniors find jobs. He also helped his subordinates with money and made sure they were paid on time and well. He’s made a lot of good changes in the comedy scene.”
