The end of Chicago P.D. season 10’s opening shouldn’t assuage fans’ concerns about Apstead. Even though Hayley and Jay tell each other they’re good, their faces say otherwise. Jay looks like he thinks they’re in better shape than Hayley, who looks like she’s about to burst into tears, telling Jay they’ll be fine. She doesn’t seem to believe it, and neither do we.
Anna’s drama with Voight has locked the trio into a distrustful relationship in which it seems that neither can fully yield to the other. Hayley is angry that Jay is doing what Voight asks him to do; An enraged Hayley Voight goes against his orders, and Jay is angry that Hayley is going rogue. With Jesse Lee Soffer leaving the series during or right after this season, it seems like we’re getting ready for the split that’s likely to happen for the duo. We’d be shocked if we knew Jay was dying to explain his departure, but that tension in Episode 1 suggests it could be a divorce that will force him to pack up. While Soffer’s departure is a hard enough pill to swallow, it would be a lot easier for fans to leave the show alive than it would be to be six feet deep.
