Sandman has surpassed the number of views on Netflix since its release earlier this month, but that may not warrant a second season. This comes from Neil Gaiman, per Diversity. The man behind the series says the cost of the series may actually make it difficult to get a renewal.

Because The Sandman is a very expensive show. And in order for Netflix to release the money to let us do another season, we have to do incredibly well. So yes, for the last two weeks we have been the best show in the world. This may still not be enough. https://t.co/m7VusGL2rW

Joe Hill, the man behind Lock and keyresponded to one of Gaiman’s tweets as follows:
I can’t stress enough – if you were thinking about giving #Drema try it, don’t wait. To use a terrible industry term, engagement matters, especially direct, overwhelming engagement. We can have 5-7 seasons, but only if you show Netflix that you want it. https://t.co/MXBntE5FRb
