During an interview with Thinking Crypto To promote Fresh Murders, Jennifer Esposito explained that she had always wanted to be a filmmaker — as a teenager, she dreamed of going to NYU film school to pave her path to storytelling. However, since she could not afford film school, she opted for acting classes, thinking that acting could satisfy the creativity she was looking for. But the drama ultimately failed to give her what she truly desired, which led her to start making moves towards her own projects.
Esposito revealed that she has been thinking about the Fresh Murders story since she was 17 years old and has even told it several times throughout her career. But every time she did, she was told to write it first, leaving her wondering why she wasn’t given any help. Eventually, her thought process changed. Esposito said:[I realized] if you keep waiting for someone to either give you a great job or help you, you will be waiting a very long time. So I finally… thought you know what you should do: just do it. Sit down and do it.”
So she set about writing the script. Esposito continued, “I finally got to the point, after starting and stopping, starting and stopping with a script where I said, ‘Jennifer, there’s no alternative. Are you going to do this or are you going to come back and wait for the tables because I won’t let you take [another role] What do not you like”.
