Born and raised in California, Jenna Ortega started acting at the age of nine (via IMDb). Her talent has landed her roles in TV shows such as Stuck in the Middle, Jane the Virgin and Richie Rich. Ortega won the role of Wednesday and, without wasting a second, immediately began to explore the character, which led her to complex preparations to play the role authentically. She said Netflix“I was so nervous about this part because I just want to give it credit. So I went to fencing lessons twice a week [and] Twice a week I went to cello lessons. Much of that too was just physical. I walked like Wednesday and I think people thought I was crazy.”
Her hard work and fierce pursuit of capturing the essence of the character seems to have paid off. Speaking at an FYC event for the “Yellowjackets” (via Diversity), Christina Ricci mentioned the actress and said, “And Jenna is incredible. [to set] so I knew [what she looked like in character] and I thought it was such a great modern take on the medium.” Ricci is also set to star in the series, though her role remains a mystery at the moment. While Ortega’s commitment to the character was spirited, she received the endorsement of fellow performer Wednesday Addams should feel satisfied.
