During an interview with Diversity published on August 23, 2022, Glen Powell mainly discussed the hugely successful Top Gun: Maverick. Though after talking about the film, the camaraderie among the cast, and a possible third role in the franchise, Powell has shed some light on rumors that he’s been cast as Cyclops in the MCU. “No, not me. Nobody called me. I don’t even have any contact information for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about,” he said, seemingly dismissing the prospect of ever spearheading a new widescreen take on the X-Men.
Of course, when the time comes for the X-Men to join the MCU, Marvel Studios won’t necessarily be looking for a new actor for Cyclops. James Marsden, who played the role in the first three non-MCU X-Men films, has expressed interest in playing the character again. In an interview with Screen ranting, he recalled the pleasure he had while working on the X-Men trilogy and the real-world connections created by the experience, noting that he would play Cyclops again under the right circumstances. Marsden’s successor Ty Sheridan felt the same way when he spoke to ComicBook.com back in 2020.
What future holds for Cyclops in the MCU remains a mystery, though it would be unwise to pin your hopes on Glen Powell having something to do with it.
