Who doesn’t love a little Greek mythology? Blood of Zeus brings Olympus, Hades, and other corners of ancient mythical Greece to Netflix in animated splendor, telling the story of the demigod Heron (a new character created for the show) on a journey to save the world. He is surrounded by the usual suspects such as Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Hera and, of course, Zeus himself.

The series debuted on Netflix in 2020 and immediately gained popularity. high critical appraisal for its superb animation, stellar cast and new take on Greek folklore. This story uses many of the same tropes that mythology fans know from old legends – deadly quarrels between gods, old sins returning to haunt Olympus, and human heroes rising up in times of trouble. Aside from the narrative hooks, there are plenty of visceral animations that make the most of the show’s divine characters.

While The Blood of Zeus differs in many ways from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it is still a story about hidden evil and the arrogance of those in power. And on top of that, it just looks great.
