HBO Max’s newest round of cuts is focusing on animation projects, and according to television line, his most high-profile victim is none other than Batman: Caped Crusader. The animated series was announced on May 19, 2021, and there are some pretty big names behind it – JJ Abrams, Batman director Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm from Batman: The Animated Series. As Reeves’ involvement suggests, Batman: Caped Crusader focuses on the young, brooding version of Batman featured in The Batman and played by Robert Pattinson in the action movie.
With the news that HBO Max is no longer interested in him, Batman: Caped Crusader is now in limbo, along with several other animated projects in development. However, there’s always a chance the series could pick up again because it will remain in production as HBO Max tries to find another home for the series. Whether that will be achieved remains to be seen, but as it stands, fans can take comfort in the news that Abrams’ other major DC animated project for HBO Max – Justice League Dark – is reportedly going according to plan.
