During an interview with Term, The Simpsons co-showrunner Matt Selman revealed that season 34 will feature two episodes of Treehouse of Horror, one of which will be a complete series parodying one of Stephen King’s classic novels. “The full-length episode is a parody of Stephen King’s It, with Krusty as Pennywise, get ready,” Selman explained. Knowing that this particular parody is getting a whole separate episode is certainly exciting news, as is the discovery that the infamous depraved clown Krusty (Dan Castellaneta) will be playing the demonic entity known as Pennywise.

As mentioned earlier, this won’t be the first time The Simpsons has referenced King’s work. The sixth season of Treehouse of Horror V parodied The Shining—albeit a direct parody of a Stanley Kubrick film, of which King himself is not a fan—and season 13’s The Missing Years directly parodied King’s Body. He is best known for his adaptation of Stay with Me. There is no doubt that It remains one of King’s most iconic novels of all time to this day, and so it makes perfect sense why Selman is so thrilled to be able to parody the story through a fully fleshed out episode.
