Hallmark’s “Groundswell” is a romance film centered on Emma, a chef, who makes the decision to break up with her boyfriend and go on vacation instead of staying with him. “Groundswell” was directed by Lee Friedlander. After spending some time in Hawaii, she catches the surfing bug and chooses to enroll in a class. There she meets Ben, an experienced surfer and teacher who teaches her how to ride the waves. She is able to better prepare herself to deal with her personal and professional issues thanks to the time she spends with Ben on the breathtaking island.
Audiences are captivated throughout the Hallmark film’s uplifting tale thanks to the film’s stunning sets and outstanding actors. The film’s success can be attributed, in part, to the fact that it strikes a healthy balance between drama and fun while being visually appealing. Given the film’s many stunning sets, one can imagine many people wondering where it was shot, and we have the answers you’ve been looking for right here!
Locations used for Groundswell filming
The majority of “Groundswell” was filmed in Oahu, located in Hawaii. Principal photography for the film began in the second half of May 2022 and continued until June of the same year. Filming wrapped in 2022. Together, let’s take a look at the ins and outs of how the film was shot.
“Groundswell” was filmed on numerous islands in Hawaii, including Oahu, which served as the setting for several sequences. It’s no surprise that the production team for the Hallmark movie chose to shoot here in Hawaii given that the majority of the story takes place there. On Oahu’s Waikiki Beach, located in the homonymous neighborhood of the same name, waterfront and surf footage was filmed. Waikiki Beach is one of six nearby beaches, so it attracts many visitors throughout the year. These visitors come to Waikiki Beach to enjoy the spectacular ocean views. It seems that a significant part of the beach has been created by human activity, which is an interesting fact. As part of the process of shoreline development and restoration in and around Waikiki, millions of cubic feet of sand have been added to the beach. Those planning their trip to Waikiki between mid-September and late March will have the opportunity to witness a breathtaking sunset over the water.
The city of Honolulu, which serves as the capital of Hawaii, sits on the southeastern tip of the island of Oahu. Besides being the location of the state capital, Oahu is also known for its many popular tourist spots. The movie “Groundswell” is proof that this area does, in fact, have a strong surfing culture. A series of professional surfing competitions known as the Triple Crown of Surfing have been held annually on Oahu’s North Shore since 1983. Participants compete during the months of November and December each year. After the conclusion of the individual competitions, the results of the competition as a whole are tallied and used to determine the overall winner.
It’s no surprise that Oahu, located in the Hawaiian archipelago, is a popular choice among filmmakers for producing their projects. The island is home to many breathtaking scenery and the local culture is rich and vibrant. Places like Waikiki Beach are frequently used in movies set in Hawaii or other coastal regions of the world. The characters have their own enlightening experiences in Hawaii in a number of different movies, just like they do in the Hallmark movie everyone saw. Many well-known films, such as “Punch-Drunk Love” and “Big Eyes”, have been filmed on the island of Oahu during its history as a film production location.
A ground swell in the casting
In the film “Groundswell”, starring Lacey Chabert, the role of Emma is played by the actress. She’s previously appeared in “The Wedding Veil Legacy” and “Christmas at Castle Hart,” so this isn’t her first appearance in a Hallmark movie. In the love story, Ektor Rivera stars as Ben, a surf instructor. The actor may be familiar to you from his previous roles in films such as ‘Sugar Plum Twist’ and ‘La ltima Gira’. Darren Darnborough as Garrett Weston, Napoleon Tavale as Sebastian, Omar Bustamante as Franky, and Lundon Knighten as Chief Tracy are some of the other characters who make cameos.
In the upcoming Hallmark Groundswell movie, the lead roles will be played by Lacey Chabert (Christmas at Castle Heart) and Ektor Rivera (Sugar Plum Twist). The first episode of the project is set to premiere on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on August 21.
Katie Lee Biegel’s novel Groundswell is being adapted into a film of the same name. Beigel is serving as the project’s executive producer in addition to making an appearance in the production.
Emma (Chabert), an Atlanta chef, experiences both a personal and professional setback early in the film Groundswell. She then travels to Hawaii, where she meets Ben (Rivera), a handsome and reclusive surf instructor, who gives her training that helps her get back on her feet.
In an interview with Deadline that was done exclusively for the publication, Biegel remarked, “I’m a huge fan of Lacey’s movies, and she’s been my dream option to portray Emma, from day one.” This endeavor is close to my heart and I can think of no one more qualified than you to accompany us on Emma’s journey.
Cameron Johann is Executive Producer of Groundswell from Crown Media Productions. Both Ric Galindez and Roy Tjioe are involved in the production process. Carlie Mantilla and John Eliot Jordan wrote the screenplay, and Lee Friedlander is directing production.
In February, Chabert signed a multi-picture deal with Crown Media Family Networks. As part of the deal, she will star in executive producing and developing other elements for films that will air on the Hallmark Channel and other Hallmark platforms over the next two years.
Buchwald and DePaz Management are responsible for representing Rivera.
