Audible “Sandman” faithfully adapts the comics without having to change them too much to fit within the limitations of television, and hired a stellar cast to bring it to life. To name but a few: James McAvoy as Morpheus, Michael Sheen as Lucifer, Kat Dennings as Death, Riz Ahmed as the Corinthian, Taron Egerton as John Constantine and Jeffrey Wright as Destiny. It’s definitely worth listening to while waiting for the second season of the Netflix series.

In the bonus episode “The Dream of a Thousand Cats”, a Siamese prophet cat (Sandra Oh) explains the true history of cats over the years to the feline audience, revealing that they used to be giant creatures that hunted people for sport. However, that all changed when people dreamed of being bigger than their furry oppressors, and the dynamic changed instantly. It’s a fascinating little chapter, and the streaming service is bringing in some Audible actors to voice some of the characters in a little story.

The producers clearly set their goals high when they enlisted McAvoy to voice the Golden-Haired Man, the one who convinces people to dream big, while Sheen voices Paul, the evil owner of a Siamese cat who drowns her kittens. They are joined by Loki’s voice actor and Doctor Who alum David Tennant as Don, the owner of a tabby kitten (Rosie Day). It’s also worth noting that Neil Gaiman is also voicing the audio drama, and he’s returning to voice Skull Crow. If that wasn’t enough, the voice of William Shakespeare, Arthur Darvill, gets a starring role in the playable version of Calliope as the nefarious writer Richard Madoc.

They just can’t get enough of Dreaming!
