This was decades ago and two years before the legend in question caught the attention of the nation’s viewers. She was virtually unknown at the time, not even appearing in the TV movie Midnight Offers (which was supposed to happen in 1981) or the Nell Carter sitcom Give Me a Break! (which will happen even later, in 1984). In fact, an appearance in 1980 on “Price is Right” was a breakthrough moment in a burgeoning career.

There is a certain shock that comes when you see someone famous on TV before they became famous. You look at the screen and suddenly realize: “I know this person!” They look so different, so normal before taking on celebrity glitter.

However, in that old episode “The Right Price” announcer Johnny Olson left no doubt about the identity of the contestant who would later become famous as a game show host. “Vanna White!” he shouted, “Get off!”

White compressed she makes her way past the unselected in the aisle to race towards the stage, her long dark blonde hair held up by sunglasses on her head streaming behind her. With a big smile on her face, she ran over to the other players, placing last in the row of contestants, as Olson continued his signature opening, “You’re the first four contestants on The Price Is Right!”
