The art of swordsmanship is repeated not only in the Wednesday trailer, but also in the Addams Family movies of the 1990s. In Wednesday’s teaser, the main character attends several different schools, but she ends up being sent to Nevermore Academy after releasing sacks of piranhas into the pool. Upon arriving at Nevermore, she is introduced to several people, and a scene shows Wednesday engaging in a swordsman match. For longtime fans of The Addams Family, this should highlight how important sword fighting is to the creepy and crazy family, and it seems like they all have some affinity for this fighting style.

In The Addams Family, Gomez (Raul Julia) shields his lawyer Tully (Dan Hedaya). Tully tries to land a killing blow on the Addams family patriarch, but Gomez easily parries and calls his opponents fighting a “dirty pool”. Not only is Gomez addicted to the blade, but both Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) create a Shakespeare-style fencing play that borrows a line from Hamlet. Their game, filled with blood bags, covers the audience with fake arterial blood. Ultimately, the Addams family has a penchant for swordsmanship, and it’s great to see the upcoming Wednesday series follow suit.
