David Gallagher, lacrosse player and 2020 Dartmouth College graduate, died on Sunday after sustaining an injury on Hanover’s steep incline under Ledyard Bridge.
When David, 24, returned to Dartmouth, he was employed as an analyst for an asset management company in Los Angeles. Gallagher graduated in 2020, so he went on his debut, which had been postponed due to the pandemic.
At Ivy League University, he was an outstanding lacrosse player and fraternity member. Additionally, he has worked for Bane Realty Capital, HFF and JLL.
Additionally, Gallagher is reported as attending Downington High School in Pennsylvania and enrolling in classes at the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dartmouth graduate David Gallagher was killed in an accident.
David’s passing was announced by Dartmouth Men’s Lacrosse.
The Pennsylvania native Gallagher, according to authorities, was in town for his postponed opening ceremony for the Class of 2020 with his family. The Dartmouth reports that on Tuesday and Wednesday, the college’s green flag on the Dartmouth campus will be lowered in Gallagher’s honor. Boston.com was told by Dartmouth spokeswoman Diana Lawrence that the university is mourning the loss of its late student.
They added that Gallagher participated in both the Theta Delta Chi fraternity and the men’s varsity lacrosse team at Dartmouth.
The lacrosse team also thought he was tough, worked hard on and off the field, had a strong moral code, and had a positive outlook on life. They said Dave would be missed and he lived his life with a big smile that lit up the room.
What happened to the lacrosse player?
At around 2 a.m. Sunday, the weekend of the celebration, Gallagher was discovered in serious condition under a Ledyard bridge on West Wheelock Street on the University of New Hampshire campus. A well-known Dartmouth challenge is swimming across the Connecticut River below, running across the bridge, and this bridge is where it happens.
Just to get Gallagher off the slope under Ledyard Bridge, paramedics had to use a boat.
He was taken to a local hospital, but died shortly thereafter. There is currently an investigation to find out exactly what happened, but according to Lt. Michael Schibuola it was a “horrible accident” caused by alcohol. Accordingly, no charges should be brought against anyone.
Gallagher’s death was a “horrible accident”, according to Hanover police lieutenant Michael G. Schibuola, and it may have involved alcohol. On a hill near the Ledyard Bridge, which has long served as a gathering place for students, Gallagher was found seriously injured and his companions called 911 to report the incident on Monday.
“We don’t know how he sustained the injuries that ultimately led to his death,” Schibuola said. We are investigating. The results of the full autopsy aren’t expected for a few weeks, and we don’t anticipate any criminal charges.

With his mother and sister, David Gallagher
David’s father uploaded a lengthy ode to their son’s graduation on YouTube. He wrote: “Congratulations, David”. Always strive for perfection and achieve great things. He signed it in the name of David’s mother and said, “You’ll do wonders in California!”
Gallagher’s parents must be inconsolable at this moment of his terrible passing.
Additionally, Davis may have been alone himself when he died. His lack of activity on social media accounts makes it harder to determine whether or not he is dating someone.
