While still doing relatively well in its final season, a long-running series like King of the Hill inevitably experiences ratings ups and downs. Despite being unusable, the series still drew an estimated 6 million viewers last year. This puts King of the Hill ahead of another rising Fox animated comedy: Seth MacFarlane’s American Dad! The new animated series gathered 5.9 million viewers, but, Unlike Hill family, “American Dad” received an extension order (via TSB RF). So the ratings couldn’t be the only factor deciding the cancellation of King of the Hill.

As it turns out, a very specific element of the TV program also seems to have played into the fate of King of the Hill. At the time, Fox was deciding where to place another recently booked show in the Animation Domination lineup. Created by McFarlane, Richard Appel and Mike Henry of McFarlane’s hit “Family Guy” and created by McFarlane, The Cleveland Show took over the King of the Hill timeslot that once ran.

So, when the cancellation of King of the Hill was finally lifted, how did Mike Judge himself take the show’s death? talking to Chicago Tribune about this in 2009, Judge reveals that he is at ease towards the end of the show, saying “I think it’s time to stop now.
