An all-new episode of Season 17 of America’s Got Talent (AGT) aired on NBC on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The first batch of acts from the quarter-final round were played during the two hours.
The quarterfinals will span five weeks, with 11 acts per week, two of which will advance to the final round based on America’s vote.
The judges and audience were in awe when Ben Lapidus returned to the stage and performed the parmesan cheese routine in rock style. While the song once again surprised the judges, the performance received mixed reviews from the audience. Others criticized the show for moving it forward while leaving other talented contestants dangling while others loudly applauded it.
Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum – fan favorites – were back on the judging panel and delighted audiences with their quirky personalities. They selected 54 acts, along with comedian Jordon Conley as a wild card contender, to advance to the quarter-finals, of which 10 contestants will advance to the final round.
Ben’s performance of his song Parmesan Cheese during the audition round earned him buzzer X from each of the AGT judges individually. His participation in the reality talent contest would thus have ended. But what followed ranks among the franchise’s greatest moments.
The contestant was about to leave when the judges signaled their displeasure, but the live audience cheered him on and started shouting “parmesan.” As a result, Ben was given a well-deserved second opportunity. With the exception of Howie, the judges removed their X buzzers when they noticed that the audience had become very fond of the contestant.
The full studio version of the song, which has gained huge popularity, is currently also available for streaming. Grad School, Call Your Mom and Never Mine to Lose are some of his most recent singles.
In Doylestown, Pennsylvania, the singer grew up. He told NBC that growing up in Pennsylvania only increased his passion for music.
“In Pennsylvania, the pop-punk, emo, and hardcore-punk scenes surrounded me growing up. So musically and songwriting-wise, that was my main focus. Therefore , everything I do that feels like a parody of that is driven by a deep love and appreciation for this music, which has had a significant impact on my entire life.
Fan opinions of AGT competitor Ben Lapidus are mixed.
Reactions from viewers at home to Ben’s quarter-final performance were mixed. Others were unconvinced by its premise or delivery, although some thought its performance was significantly better than some of the other performers on the night.
