In an interview with IndieWire, Bullet Train producer Kelly McCormick has revealed that Michael Shannon’s casting for the role of the White Death is indirectly due to Shannon almost playing Cable in Deadpool 2. She shared that Shannon was originally cast as Cable, and had it not been for the conflicting schedules, he would have been seen onscreen. McCormick, however, had no regrets, saying that Brolin was so excellent in the role that it was hard for her to guess how it would have been if someone else had played the role.

“Playing on Cable” would place Shannon in the rare category of performers who have starred in both Marvel and DC films, which include Michael Keaton, J.K. Simmons, and Laurence Fishburne. Shannon’s most famous work in superhero films to date was in the 2013 film Man of Steel, in which he played General Zod opposite Henry Cavill portraying Superman.

Shannon was far from the only performer David Leitch and McCormick brought back from Deadpool 2. Bullet Train star Brad Pitt he also made a cameo appearance in the film, playing the superhero Vanisher. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds, who played the title character in Deadpool 2, also makes a cameo appearance as Carver in Bullet Train.
