On Friday, August 5, 2018, Singaporean YouTuber Darryl Ian Koshy, better known as Dee Kosh, was sentenced to over seven months in prison for sex offenses involving alleged minors. In several cases, the 33-year-old criminal also filmed himself committing his crimes.
According to Mashable Asia, Deputy Prosecutor Lim Ying Min revealed that Koshy used his fame to lure the victims. Koshy was charged with three counts of human trafficking. It has also been claimed that he attempted to solicit sexual actions from a child or adolescent. According to information from the English-language daily published in Singapore, The Strait Times, the young man was a minor.
Six different people went to the police to complain about Koshy after the allegations against him were made public on Instagram in August 2020. A year later, towards the end of August 2021, he was arrested for the crime of having recorded her sexual acts with a male companion.

According to stories that surfaced in the local press, Dee Kosh was found guilty of trying to coerce a teenage girl into engaging in sexual activity in exchange for financial compensation. The sources further state that Koshy initially offered the individual around 400 Singapore dollars (S$), but this amount was later increased to 2,000 Singapore dollars (S$). According to an article published by the Strait Times, Koshy first met the boy in February 2017 on Orchard Road in Singapore, near the Takashimaya department store. The individual is said to have worked in the floristry industry at the time.
After some time, Koshy reportedly asked his Instagram followers for help in locating the boy’s contact details. After that, he communicated with the person in question via WhatsApp, where he offered the latter a job. Later, when Koshy learned that the boy did not have a girlfriend, he came to the child in an attempt to solicit sex in exchange for money; however, the boy refused.
Following the incident described in the previous paragraph, it was stated that Dee Kosh had made a total of five sexual solicitation promises. After one of those people came forward with their allegations in August 2020, five other people followed suit soon after.
This YouTuber was charged with three counts earlier this year for allegedly providing money to young people to induce them to solicit illegal sex acts from minors. In the same vein, he was also charged with three cases of crimes under the Films Act where he filmed himself engaging in sexual activity with men. It was reported that Singaporean police found at least 25 such recordings on his device after his arrest. In addition to the allegations that have been discussed previously, Dee Kosh has also been charged with committing an offense covered by the Children and Young Persons Act.
It’s possible that not all of his victims were children, but a local publication claims that at least four of his victims were between the ages of 15 and 17. A person in Singapore over the age of 16 is allowed to have such a sexual relationship; however, persons under the age of 18 also enjoy some legal protection against sexual exploitation.
Possible punishments that Darryl Ian Koshy could have faced compared to his actual sentence
Under Singapore laws, Koshy could have been sentenced to a maximum of two years in prison for each instance he attempted to induce minors to engage in sexual activity in exchange for financial compensation. He could have been required to pay a fine instead. Despite this, the 33-year-old Filipino was only sentenced to 32 weeks in prison. It is unclear how much fine, if any, he had to pay.
Meanwhile, Kosh could have been sentenced to up to five years in prison if convicted of sexually exploiting minors and charged under the Children and Young Persons Act . In this scenario, he would have been held responsible for breaking the Children and Young Persons Act. If convicted of such a crime, he would have been liable to either imprisonment, a fine of up to S$10,000, or both.
In addition to the other offenses he committed, the former DJ and YouTuber could have faced a prison term of between one and two years, with the possibility of a fine ranging from twenty thousand to forty thousand Singapore dollars. . to record such acts in the film.
