Cast: Imani Lewis, Sarah Catherine Hook, Elizabeth Mitchell, Will Swenson, Obion Wise, Jason Robert Moore, Gracie Zenny, Dylan McNamara, Dominic Goodman, Philip Mullings Jr., MK xyz, Jonas Dylan Allen and Roberto Mendez. The story revolves around Juliet (Hook), a teenage vampire who is about to commit her first murder in order to take her place in a powerful family of vampires. She sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope (Lewis). However, much to Juliet’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter and comes from a family of notorious assassins. Both discover that the other will not be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, it is too easy to fall in love..
The series premiered on June 10 and received mediocre reviews from both critics and viewers, according to Rotten Tomatoes. First kill ranked #7 on Netflix’s Top 10 English-Language Series after its first three days of release. The show reached #3 on the list with a full week of release data and spent one more week on the list before being dropped. First kill it was reportedly watched over 100 million hours in its first 28 days.
Despite this performance, the streaming service canceled the show. According to Termthe series did not have the staying power of other popular Netflix shows and did not meet streamers’ thresholds for watching and completing episodes.
The decision to cancel or renew a Netflix show is usually made within a month or so of a season’s release. Based on the behavior of subscribers who watched the first season, streamer executives likely felt that interest in the second season would be too low to justify the cost of producing it.
