Richard Cabral is an actor, producer, and writer best known for playing Johnny “El Coco” Cruz on NBC’s drama series Chicago P.D. He was born in East Los Angeles, California, and is currently a member of the Latino Theater Company.

He began acting while serving time in a California State prison, where he was initially incarcerated at the age of 15. After being released from prison after serving six years, he began working with Playwright-in-Residence Luis Valdez on his play Bandido!

He became further involved in theater productions throughout Los Angeles County.

His film credits include End of Watch (2012) and American Crime (2015–2017), for which he received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.

Cabral appeared as a recurring guest star on the series, which premiered in January 2019 with help from The Goldbergs creators Adam F. Goldberg and Marc Firek. He acted alongside comedian Bryan Callen, who played PE teacher Rick Mellor on the show.
