After months of waiting, the cast and creators of Shadow and Bone have confirmed that a second season is happening. Eric Heisserer tweeted a picture from his computer with a note reading “Shadow and Bone S2,” confirming that he had begun working on scripts for the next season.
Is Shadow And Bone Season 2 Going To Release Soon?
The two were joined by many other actors from Shadow and Bone, who also expressed their excitement over returning to film once more.
Frederica Wilson (who plays Zoya Nazyalensky), Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik) and Sujaya Dasgupta (Yuliia Shonska) all took to social media later that evening to share videos celebrating season 2.
Here’s everything we know so far about Shadow and Bone Season 2
The cast will be returning.
It’s unclear how many episodes there will be in the new season, or whether it’ll be another eight-episode installment like the first season.
But fans can rest assured knowing that Ben Barnes (General Kirigan) and Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov) are coming back.
There are no details yet on whether we can expect more episodes featuring our favorite characters from Six of Crows—like Kaz Brekker and Inej Ghafa—but we do know that Freddy Carter and Amita Suman won’t be reprising their roles as Kaz and Jesper, respectively.
That said, it sounds like much of the original cast will return for this high-stakes adventure across Ravka. The crew is returning as well.
Bardugo, who wrote all eight episodes of the first season based on Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling books, has returned as executive producer alongside Pouya Shahbazian (Mortal Instruments: City of Bones), Dan Levine (Green Eggs and Ham), Bardugo, Shawn Levy (Stranger Things), and Dan Cohen (Darkest Minds).
Season 2 of Shadow and Bone’s official release date
The first season of Shadow and Bone was released on April 23rd, 2021, so there’s a long wait ahead until we see Alina and the others again.
Since the first season premiered in April 2021, fans will likely have to wait at least another year for Shadow and Bone Season 2.
However, as per a report from Deadline, filming will commence on February 15 in Budapest. If this is true, we can expect the show to be released on Netflix by late 2022 or early 2023.
Production began in Hungary in 2019, with filming taking place over the summer of 2020. The series was filmed in Budapest, which is also where Netflix’s other fantasy epic, The Witcher, was shot.
It is expected to return there to shoot season two, as per Deadline. In a recent interview with Express.co.uk and other press, Heisserer discussed what viewers can expect to see when Shadow and Bone return for its second season.
He said, “We’ve been working quietly behind the scenes through COVID to continue forward on this project, and I’m just grateful we’ve kept it at the forefront of everyone’s minds.” “It’s still in production. It’s still going forward.”
He added: “The writers’ room is going strong on Season two—I’m not allowed to say much about that, but there are more episodes planned for Shadow and Bone.”
