In the 2021-22 season, Robinson served his second season as an assistant coach under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and his first season as an assistant head coach under the same coach. He has also served as an assistant coach, including at Maryland and Kansas.

She comes to us with a strong recommendation as well as extensive and varied professional experience. He has been successful in every situation he has encountered. His primary focus is the growth and development of our players, both on and off the field,” Walz said. “Shay is a decorated Air Force veteran who is also an experienced player development coach and effective recruiter. He is a great addition to our team and we are very excited to have him as a member of the ‘City.

During his time at Ole Miss, Robinson led the Rebels to the WNIT Championship in 2020-21 and a 23-9 record in 2021-22 and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 15 years. Robinson also played a role in the Rebels’ WNIT championship game in 2020-21.

Shakira Austin, who was selected third overall by the Washington Mystics in the 2022 WNBA Draft, was Robinson’s primary student during her two seasons at Ole Miss. Austin spent her first two seasons at the University of Maryland, where Robinson had previously served as an assistant head coach.

Robinson had previously worked as an assistant coach at Maryland before joining the coaching staff at Ole Miss. Robinson played a major role in the Maryland Terrapins’ success in the Big Ten and nationally during his six seasons in College Park (2014-15 through 2019-20) and will be missed.

During his tenure, Maryland went 179-27 (.869) overall, including 92-12 (.885) in Big Ten play. The Terrapins had three seasons with at least 30 wins as well as five regular Big Ten titles and four conference tournament wins. The Terrapins have also enjoyed success in the offseason, reaching the NCAA Tournament five times and twice reaching the Sweet 16 and Final Four in 2015.

In Robinson’s first season as head coach at Maryland (2014-15), the Terrapins went 34-3 on the season, including an undefeated 18-0 in the Big Ten – only the second time in conference history that a team went 18-0. Not only did the Terps win a record 24 consecutive games, but they also finished the regular season by winning their first Big Ten Tournament championship. Placed first in the NCAA Tournament, Maryland beat No. 2 Duke and then No. 3 Tennessee to reach the Final Four for the second straight year.

In 2015-16, the Terrapins retained their top spot in the Big Ten, winning 31 games and capturing the regular season and conference tournament championships. That year, the Terrapins, both the men’s and women’s teams, had the best rebounding rate in the country, pulling down +15.1 boards per game.

Maryland won 30 games in 2016-17 for the third straight time, and the Terrapins also won the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles for the third straight time. Seniors Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brionna Jones were selected as the sixth and eighth players, respectively, in the 2017 WNBA Draft after entering the Sweet Sixteen.

During the 2018/19 season, the Terrapins went 29-5, including a blowout 85-61 win over No. 10 South Carolina in November. At the start of the season, they opened the season with a 12-game winning streak. The Terrapins finished the regular season with 11 wins in 12 games, winning their fourth regular Big Ten championship in five years.

In 2019-20, the Terrapins finished the regular season with a 28-4 record and won 17 consecutive games to claim the Big Ten Tournament and regular season titles. With a 16-2 record in conference play, they earned a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game for the fifth time in six years. Six Terrapins were named to the All Big Ten team, setting a program record.
