Among its gaming acquisitions, Microsoft did not stop at video game studios. The Smash.gg tournament organization platform was thus acquired at the end of the year 2020 and if it has not evolved much since then, it could things will change soon.
A new esports platform for Microsoft and Xbox?
Microsoft’s desire to bring communities together is not new. For example, we can highlight the arrival of clubs on Xbox or Arena on Xbox One for tournament management, a feature that has never really caught on.
For the moment, the the organization of tournaments therefore remains to be taken, especially if it is a question of unifying PC and console players within the same platform. While Smash.gg seems to have changed little in recent years, Microsoft could however change the situation soon since the company has just registered the Start.GG domain name with the European intellectual property protection body.
The registration was carried out by a firm specializing in the field and which is used to working for Microsoft brands. The Start.GG brand is in any case registered under classifications that evoke video games, software, or even the organization of e-sports tournaments and competitions. It is therefore possible that Smash.gg will soon have a new start with Start.GG
