While the landscape has become nicer and more family friendly in the past few years, there are some very seedy characters that frequent there. In 2001 a guy that I was in school with got beat into a coma by a couple of guys for turning down one of their sisters. There was also a shooting or suicide that was down by the boat dock too. That aside...if you are going to fish, I recommend packing light and hoofin' it to "the dam." there you can fish in the lake from the dam, walke to the spots that are less used and you can actually do some good bluegill fishing down in the spillway and creek below the dam. Good Luck! :)

C'mon, you're not a real Kentuckian until you've gotten drunk and fished at McNeely. This place used to be party central back when I was a teen/early 20's. I've had many long, drunken nights at this park. That being said, it really is a nice park. I went back out there recently for the first time in years, and they have really cleaned up the place. Very nice landscaping and definitely more family-appeal now. The trashiness of the past seems to have been removed, thankfully.
