As I write this, a packed house is grazing on pasta down at Vincenzo's and preparing to hear the Republican candidates for Mayor -- Hal Heiner, Chris Thieneman and Jonathan Roberts -- engage in an hour-long debate. You can hear it on WFPL later tonight, or on Metro TV. Our own John LaFollette will file a report on later today.
But Heiner is going all out to introduce himself to voters with a 60-second TV spot that premieres tonight, during the U of L - Cincinnati game broadcast in the Big East Tournament. See it below.
Heiner's campaign spokesman Joe Burgan says they are spending six-figures to broadcast the spot, which shows some boyhood shots of Heiner and talks about his work ethic -- starting with jobs as a janitor and short-order cook. He calls himself "a builder, a dreamer, a do-er."
Take a look for yourself.
And tonight, on Ed Springston's MyViewMatters Radio show, the three Republican candidates for Heiner's Metro Council seat -- Kaven Rumpel, Jerry Miller, and Daniel Osborne -- will have a debate, which Mojo's LaFollette will be bringing you as a live blog. So come back to Mojo and get John's take on the event.
