Happy Wednesday. The big event today is the Louisville Forum, where Hal Heiner, Chris Thieneman and Jonathan Robertson will have a debate on why they should be your next Mayor. They, of course, are Republicans. The Dems get their shot in April. It's a Vincenzo's, starts promptly at 11:45. If you can't make it, it is broadcast tonight on WFPL.
Senseless Census: How do I know that the U.S. Census is an inefficient, antiquated, bureaucratic organization? Yesterday I received a piece of U.S. Mail letting me know that my Census form will come next week, and that I'm supposed to send it back in the MAIL, provided I can find a mailbox. Then they're going to start counting all those forms, and pay people to do it.
Random Misleading C-J Headline: Corbin mom charged with killing baby to be arraigned Wednesday.
Furlough Season: Even star political writers like the C-J's Joe Gerth must take a week off and not answer business-related e-mail or phones, no matter that the state legislature is in session. I guess the C-J is hoping nothing really happens this week, or that the Herald-Leader will cover it.
Meet the Boss: Sunday night is the Undercover Boss show featuring Churchill Downs COO Bill Carstanjens. It's on CBS/WLKY, which will also have the NCAA basketball tournament draw that night. The big party is at the Track, where employees are invited to a viewing party. The footage is from Cartannjens' trips to Miami and Chicago tracks. It airs at 9.
This Will Cost E.On: We've already given them a big gift by buying their old power station to make room for the arena, but Kelly Downard says he's not going to let LG&E raise its rates at a time when it's trying to boost its attractiveness to a potential buyer. "E.On is publicly entertaining the idea of selling LG&E. An increase in rates now will increase the sale price for E.On, who will depart with these funds leaving the new owner with a need to ask for larger increases and having customers pay a bigger bill each month," he said. The city has formed a committee to look at buying it.
News Flash: Army Dudes Like Porn: An Army recruiter flashed an iPhone shot of a topless woman to some high school recruits. So one of the kids tells his Mom, and all hell breaks loose. Lighten up, Francis.
Jack Backs a Tax: Really, but it's not something he's got any power to do now or in the new job he wants. Jack Conway wants to charge a windfall tax on any banker who gets a bonus if his company got federal TARP money. From his release: "I support a one-time windfall tax on bonuses for any executive at a company that received TARP bailout funds in 2009. The windfall revenue should be used for deficit reduction to start filling in the enormous budget hole the TARP created."
FB Giveaways: Word is out to TV promotion departments to use Facebook for marketing. Yesterday I told you that Fox41 is introducing a new reporter using Facebook. Now WLKY is offering up gift cards if you'll just please follow them. And WAVE, I'm telling you, you're overdoing the status updates and about to get fired.
Terry and Me: I'm a guest on the Terry Meiners Show on WHAS Radio today, between 4 &5. Tune in.
