Finally, we got a heapin' helpin' of the white stuff. It reminds me how cool it is to work for an employer like Mojo, where I can do mostly everything I always do at work, except I can do it from home and get no closer to the snow than my balcony (pictured here).
I did find out that signing up for those weather alerts from local media outlets can be detrimental to sleeping in. At 4:25, Fox41 alerted me that JCPS is closed, then again at 4:47 for Catholic schools, and 5:34 for U of L. My new WHAS alert didn't get around to waking me with the news until 5:30, and that was only for U of L.
WHAS kept its morning news team on the air an extra 2 hours today, until 9, moving ABC's GMA to the WHAS digital channel, an option that wasn't available a year ago.
And listening to the forecast, the roads may get worse, so be careful out there if you, like, have to go in to the office.
Here's some other important news:
Wrong on Many Levels: Over in Frankfort, where there are several important issues to consider, three state Senators are pushing a bill to allow the Bibleto be taught in public schools. I'm siding with opponents, who call the bill a "back-door approach to teaching religion." Amen. The main proponent is David Boswell, an Owensboro Democrat.
Shaughnessy's Quest: Great quote from Tim Shaughnessy, the Louisville state senator, who is asking the state auditor to review several U of L medical organizations: "It has gotten so complicated that if you're not an investigative reporter or a CPA, you cannot follow what's happening at the U of L. And that's unacceptable." The Herald-Leader story also includes a note that Pres. James Ramsey of U of L wrote a letter calling Shaughnessy's inquiries "a witch hunt."
Inside Jack's Brain: You may have heard that Jack Conway is running for the U.S. Senate. I am reminded often, because I get news releases from the campaign daily. Today's missive includes a letter from his wife Elizabeth. She says there's a bunch of cool stuff about her husband you don't know, like that he can name every Derby winner since FDR was president. I used to be able to do that. Be sure and test Jack on that next time you see him.
Radio News: Congrats to WAMZ's Coyote Calhoun, who's celebrating 30 years at the station. And this week, Joe Elliott, a popular choice among locals for the permanent 9-12 morning shift on WHAS Radio, is doing the show.
Popular TV News: Fox41 has promoted Jennifer Baileys to weekend news anchor following the departure of Julie Tam. It's the second recent promotion for Baileys, who moved from morning reporting to afternoons earlier this year.
