Film Guy at LouisvilleMojo here with the rundown for this February 5-7 weekend should you choose to hang out at Stonybrook, Baxter, Village 8, Tinseltown, or any others.
This Weekend:
“Dear John” – Channing Tatum is a young soldier who, one summer, falls for Amanda Seyfried. The write each other over the next seven years as he takes increasingly dangerous missions.
“From Paris with Love” – John Travolta is a bald, American secret agent who crosses paths with John Rhys-Meyers while in Paris.
The Rundown: Really? This is it? “Dear John” is based on a Nicholas Sparks novel and stars current “big star” Amanda Seyfried whose career is heading up (as compared to Megan Fox) but to be fair she was in “Mean Girls,” and “Mamma Mia!” The movie looks to be okay. You could probably do worse.
“From Paris with Love.” I saw the trailer for this over a year ago and my General Rule of Catch a Movie Trailer is that The Longer the Period of Time from Seeing the Trailer to the Movie Premiere, The Worse the Movie Usually Is. Just sayin'. Plus, Luc Besson is given credit for the story and that guy hasn't done anything good for the world of film since “The Fifth Element” (and that's being nice because, really, “Leon the Professional” was his best film).
There you have it: I'm going to watch “The Hurt Locker” on Blu-ray which I rented from Wild 'n Wooly video (no, this has not been a paid advertisement). Go down and check 'em out, rent something, and save up for next weekend's “Valentine's Day” and “The Wolfman.”
