Stop me if you've heard this one. So a governor, a congressman, and about 50 tax professionals and enthusiasts walk into an auditorium.

Sorry, I fell asleep.
That was the scene this morning as Gov. Steve Beshear and Congressman John Yarmuth (D-KY 3) spoke at U of L to promote a series of available tax credits that they say will help thousands of Kentuckians and Louisvillians keep more of the money they've earned.
They also announced that this year there will be almost 200 offices around the state where trained tax professionals will provide free help with filing state and federal tax returns.
Yarmuth said that the federal stimulus package includes tax benefits that will lead to bigger refunds for many Louisvillians. “But only if they take advantage of the benefits,” he said.
Beshear urged anyone and everyone to visit a new website to see where they can go to get their taxes done for free and see if they qualify for an earned income tax credit of up to $5,657.
He concluded by declaring February Earned Income Credit Awareness Month in Kentucky. Do we get off work for that?
Okay is this the continued adventures of folks who give out awards for just doing everyday things? Awareness is fine, understanding we're being screwed by the system we as taxpayers/voters is far more important.
