As Republican US Senate candidate Dr. Rand Paul approaches his biggest campaign event yet—a Saturday rally at the Fairgrounds that will feature Paul onstage with his dad, former Presidential candidate and US Congressman Dr. Ron Paul—the big news is an upcoming endorsement from 2008 Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

David Adams, Paul's campaign manager, said he would announce the endorsement “as soon as we get it.”

“I would categorize that one as 'worth waiting for',” he said. “I'm waiting as patiently as I can.”

Paul was in Louisville last night addressing a small crowd of about 50 University of Louisville College Republicans. The U of L students had invited Paul and his primary opponent, Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, for what would have been the first debate of the campaign.

Grayson didn't respond to the invitation, but Paul came to speak anyway. He gave what has come to be known as a pretty standard speech for him—smaller government, more capitalism—but did include a few shots at Grayson's absence.

“Sometimes when a person doesn't show up it may show that they may feel that they've been appointed to an office,” Paul said. “But we have elections in our country, and we're happy to debate and discuss these things anywhere.”

The event on Saturday with Ron Paul is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. this Saturday at the Fair and Expo Center. Tickets are $25 for adults, but kids get in free.

Alida,
You're right about the rising and falling popularity of libertarianism, but our Constitution is a libertarian document... so what does that say about us that we're only willing to regain respect for our founding document when times are bleak? Are we any better than a failing sports franchise that seeks to improve by "getting back to the basics" and building their team on solid principles? Or Christianity, which strayed from Jesus' teaching of love during the despicable days of the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, worship of relics and abuse of teachings about indulgences? Or the current abuse of the teachings of Islam by radical forces who also seek to intimidate and terrorize others? I admit that I do not like Sarah Palin's distinct populism; by definition, it is driven by the winds of public opinion. But if she is willing to direct the attention of her fans toward a renaissance of our Constitution, I'd have to say I'm all for it.

Sweet... Go Rand!! With some good ol' average guy/gal common sense, mediocre, middle of the road, unspectacular, undistinguished, joe six pack, joe the plumber, political pulp, imbecile hick demographic backing him he'll be unstoppable.

It's the only demographic you need. :-)

Sarah Palin, really? That ship sailed. Trey Grayson is what is best about Kentucky. He is not smoke and mirrors. He is the real thing and will last in Washington!

Chuck, great post!
David Adams is starting to tick me off. Hightower, Christi, Huck's guy, no Huck's guy, Tea Party "pick", no Tea Party "pick", Palin endorsement, no Palin endorsement, Pastor Fugate???
Now he wants us to risk our lives and $500.00 to drive to L-ville in a freakin' snowstorm!
Where's his head?
Oh, right. To him it's a paycheck. Well, not me, not the safety of my family! Not for anyone.
When will Rand realize this guy is hurting us?
I'm doing to the movies, Glenn Beck and O'Reilly. Screw this elitist based, egocentrist campaign.

Great job, Alida! You got one complete, grammatically correct thought posted, without a cut & paste, all by yourself!!!
Stay out of Kentucky politics! Campaign for Liberty snipes aren't going to be tolerated here anymore.

That's "Campaign for Liberty snipes." If you've never been snipe hunting then you sho' ain't from Kentucky.

Who's Donald Duncan anyway. You're post seems to be quote suggestive of dyslexia. I understand Dr. Randi Paul could help you.

I thought this was a Rand blog subject. Thank you for encapsulating the real Rand Paul, the libertarian Rand Paul. Hence, Palin won't get near him with a 20 ft. tobacco pole.
Everything you've written flies in the face of the modern conservative movement.
BTW does Rand want to abandon Israel like Daddy Ron? The quick answer is "yes."

That's the best you've got? That's it? 3,ooo years of history and all you have to offer is "he hit me first"? Did not! Did too! Did not! Did too!
We're talking absolute Second Holocaust the minute the US withdraws support from Israel.
You LAUGH OUT LOUD? You disgust me as do all of you schmierda for brains libertarians.
Before you post one more time and destroy what credibility you have left please read something of substance on the subject!
