A week from today, you'll be trying to think up something to talk about with your in-laws and complaining about the Lions always being on TV. OK, let's hope that's not true for you. We'll be writing about plenty of options for you in the next week or so.

And remember, no smoking today for the Great American Smokeout.

Here's some stuff going on now:

Chiming in on Butchertown: It's Ag Commish Richie Farmer, who writes in an Op-Ed about how important the Butchertown plant is, and pokes neighbors by including a line about who was there first. Maybe Richie does want to run for Governor.

And in 21-year-old News: The C-J finally uncovered Jim King's divorce records, finding that his ex-wife got a restraining order in 1988. King remembers a different version of the events, but that's all he's saying.

LEO Vs. River Fields: Whoever had the bright idea of stealing copies of LEO may not have anticipated the media's response. WHAS-TV did a story, and River Fields' attorney refused to appear on camera. And Stephen George will be discussing it on Francene's radio show today. At least River Fields bought a big ad in LEO.

Don't Trust those Little Old Ladies: A couple of librarians in Jessamine County didn't like the fact that a graphic novel was available to be checked out, so they conspired to keep the book away from an 11-year-old girl. And got fired for it.

Bridge to Be Finished in July!!!: No, not THAT bridge. The Harrods Creek Bridge, delayed repeatedly by legal challenges from River Fields, is under construction and estimated to be ready for traffic this summer.

Keeping the Lights On for You: Wayside Hotel (?) or whatever you want to call it, is a legal hotel. The Health Department granted permits for Wayside to operate the hotel at 2nd and Broadway yesterday. Don't think you'll be able to get one of those penny-a-night rooms, though.

King remembering a different version of events. Par for the course?

As for Butchertown, it appears that the Ag Secretary isn't aware of two things:

1) The gentrification of the neighborhood occurred simultaneously with the existence of this plant, both starting in the 1960s.

2) Most anyone looking at this issue, including the Butchertown residents, don't want the plant to leave the area, but instead be relocated within Jefferson County.

It appears Mr. Farmer was given a script to write by JBS. He's just another paid-for Republican politician.

As for the River Fields, I wonder if anyone in the Louisville area will see their ad as anything but hollow propaganda from a pompous, snooty narrow-interest group. They should realize that when they oppose something supported by essentially the entire community, that most of us will refuse to play by their "ground rules". The British were befuddled that American revolutionaries weren't playing by their ground rules for battle as well. River Fields may want a calm discussion, but the time for that has long past, as they have proved it with yet another baseless, obstructionist lawsuit that will only cost us in the community millions, if not billions of more dollars of OUR money. Now is the time for pitchforks. I wonder if River Fields is ready to deal with that.
