The Internet is a little less smart and a little less funny today. Chris McCandless (Cardinal Scooby on Mojo) has passed away. Chris was an active participant in the Louisville Ale Club and a long time member of LouisvilleMojo. His humor was a strong force in the Mojo forums. Our condolences go to the family and friends of Chris.
We asked JennTheMermaid to write a little about Scooby to try to capture the irreverent fun of his personality. Jenn had this to say:
When I think of Cardinal Scooby, a tornado of memories come to mind. He was so caring. And by caring, I mean he did whatever he could in his power to see boobs, find out who was "DOING IT", stir up drama and basically turn this site on its end.
He had worthy adversaries in the Political Forum and loved to tag-team with those that saw things as he did. Those "19-page pissing matches" in Politics will be missed sorely by many.
He loved to help parents parent, help fake-bi girls work it out, help computer geeks find the right parts, help support UofL even when it sucks, and help us realize that the Mods REALLY ARE DOING A GREAT JOB.
He loved his Ale Club meetings. I always thought he had a look of happiness at those meetings. Happy to be with his friends.
His witty banter, one-liners and ZINGS! made me come to Mojo day in and day out. He was my very favorite person. Even when he was mean, I always pictured him grinning behind it, so I always held a special place for him in my heart, as I'm sure many did. I will NEVER forget him.
Rest in Peace, Cardinal Scooby, in your Eternal TimeOut, LouisvilleMojo will never be the same again.
I would have rather seen so many others die in his place. This is just not right. I never told him how funny I thought he was. I sometimes thought I was the only one who could understand his genius.
I used to play indoor soccer with and against Chris for quite a few years. And yes, his team names always had a Scooby reference... Mystery Machine, Fred Loves Daphne, What's Up With The Ascot, and my personal fave, WWSD (What Would Scooby Doo?) Chris always smiled and was always quick with a joke or a quip. Sometimes it was at your expense... but he never shied away from poking fun at himself, either. In truth, the constant barrage of sarcasm and wit could almost be a little exhausting at times... but I'd rather grow weary from someone's sense of humor than their constant complaining. He will be missed.
Scooby sure helped me out just last month with my computer parts shopping. I would still be looking I was going around in circles trying to decide what t build. All the stuff he picked out had great reviews
and I couldn't be happier with this first PC that I built alone. Scooby treated me very well on Mojo all the time. I'm sorry I never met him and couldn't believe it when I heard the news. I'll remember him as a good guy. Thanks Scooby.
