Back to the Party for Thieneman

Chris Thieneman has been campaigning as a Republican candidate for Mayor, even though the official party pretty much kicked him to the curb last year.

Last night, the local party officially welcomed Thieneman back with open arms, passing a motion that expunged the record of his banishment, orchestrated by former party chair Jack Richardson.

Jerry Miller, the current chair, said he wanted to make sure Thieneman has a clean record in the party.

"Jack's letter said that with the passage of time you'll get back in," Miller explained. "My experience in the last two months I felt he'd proven himself to be a good Republican looking to unseat the Democratic control on City Hall.

"By his conduct in the current campaign proved he was working for the right end and that we should overturn it."

Thieneman, who ran in the May 2008 primary for Congress against Anne Northup, got into a dispute with the party after claiming that Sen. Mitch McConnell was orchestrating a campaign against him and in support of Northup in the primary.

Thieneman famously stated in Janaury 2008 on the Francene radio show that he was quitting the party and supporting John Yarmuth in the race. Thieneman quickly recanted his party switch, but it was a big media story for a week. It prompted Ricahrdson's actions, which stripped Thieneman of a position as a legislative district chair this spring.

Here's the letter from Richardson:
Please be advised that pursuant to a unanimous vote of the Jefferson County Republican Party Executive Committee on even date and pursuant to Local and State Party Rules you were declared and are ineligible, disqualified and removed from all capacities of service, election and/or appointment within the party by reason of your endorsement of John Yarmuth, the details and facts of which are not necessary to repeat.

We sincerely hope that with the passage of time you will be able to demonstrate your commitment to the Republican Party through your actions and once again be of service to the party.

Thieneman said today that he didn't consider it a major issue, that he was campaigning in earnest. He faces Metro Councilman Hal Heiner in this spring's GOP primary for Mayor.

"I never left. I'm proud to be a Republican," he said.

He added that in last night's meeting, he proudly held up his anti-Jim King bummer sticker, which reads: "We Need a Mayor, Not a King."

THE REAL DEAL...

you need to learn how to spell.
My mother owns Christi's Cafe on Dixie Hwy and I am sure that Chris would make a great Mayor for the City of Louisville. He has got my VOTE!
