It's Friday, and things are really, really good. Great weekend weather ahead, maybe our last one for awhile. This morning, inspired by Mojo's bike commuter, I rode my bike the 10 miles from J-town to Mojo. It was cold (35 degrees) but a great experience, despite the jerk who felt it necessary to blow his giant SUV's horn when he got a couple feet from my back wheel on Brownsboro Road.
Let's get on with the news, including:
Which is Worse: Incompetence or Harassment?: Note to Mayor Abramson - the right thing to do is to give Gilles Meloche his resignation back and fire him immediately. Yesterday, Fox41 aired a story detailing Meloche's incompetence based on inhumane treatment of kittens, while WLKY had a story detailing an ex-employees charges, in detail, of sexual harassment.
On the Record: Denise Bentley, the former Metro Councilwoman active in George Unseld's 2008 primary campaign in the 6th District, didn't like being mentioned in that motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Ken Herndon this week. That's the one in which Herndon was unable to find out who sent an anti-gay, anti-Herndon flyer that altered the election. Bentley filed a motion to strike the results of Herndon's investigation from the public record, saying it was a "sham, redundant, immaterial, impertinent and scandalous diatribe."
Why We Miss Bob Hill: No one gets to the heart of a story like the former C-J Metro columnist (a position that no longer exists). Hill wrote a piece for Louisville Mag detailing, in a hilarious way, the Ohio River Bridges controversy.
Hill takes a shot at his old employer, as well as the Mayor. And River Fields. Don't expect to see a new bridge. Anywhere around here anytime soon.
Get a Load of Mojo: If you haven't noticed, our little Mojo news movement has been cranking out some awesome stuff to think about, like Billy Reed's analysis of the Ohio casino vote, Preston Bishop's hilarious take on the state's Christmas tree controversy, Beverly Bartlett's hatred of football and John LaFollette's reporting on racism on 4th Street. And today, we've got Christopher Hall's one-on-one interview with the Mayor.
Cooked Books at Jewish: Insiders know that Bob Shircliff's June resignation as Jewish Hospital's CEO wasn't totally voluntary. Now a lawsuit by a former financial officer there claims Shircliff ordered him to alter the books to boost the hospital's reported income, and that Shircliff was forced out of his job.
Finally, Some Name-Dropping from Last Night: At last night's Signature Chefs event, some big names showed up for the great food and drink to benefit the March of Dimes. I spotted Mayor Jerry Abramson, philanthropist Owsley Brown Frazier, Darrell Griffith and Heather French Henry making the rounds. On the media celebrity front, there was Francene, Angie Fenton, Janelle MacDonald, Drew Deener, Kelly K, Maira Ansari, Susan Sweeney Crum and others. John Ramsey was the M.C.
