It's a busy sports day here in Possibility City.

The U of L men's basketball team plays an exhibition against Bellarmine in Freedom Hall at 7 p.m. (televised on WHAS-11). The Rick is still juggling his lineup in this tune-up against the Knights, ranked No. 1 in Div. II in preseason polls.

World Series game six is on Fox 41 tonight, game time around 8. It's the Phillies against the Yankees in a geriatric arms race, with 37-year-old Andy Pettitte of the Yanks going up against 38-year-old Pedro Martinez of the Phils. Pettite's pitching on short rest, which might help out the Phils in a game that's win-or-go-home for them – but it might do them little good if slumping slugger Ryan Howard doesn't get his stick in gear.

And Louisville's St. Xavier High School is the only local school still in the boys' state soccer tournament, going up against Covington Catholic at 6 p.m. tonight in the semifinals at Georgetown College. Louisville's Sacred Heart Academy plays in the girls' semifinal tomorrow night.

On an odd note that may say something about the popularity of soccer statewide – or the relative lack thereof - Catholic schools make up three of the girls' final four (Daviess County is the only non-Catholic school left in the tourney) and two of the four in the boys' bracket.

Finally, The Courier-Journal has a nice piece in today's paper about a girl playing boys' football at Moore High School, as the team's starting center.

This is the next step in developing our own brand of citizen journalism.
I'm here to report on what I see going on in Louisville, to look for stories wherever and whatever they are, and to get you to help me. If you know of something going on that's good, or something that's going on that shouldn't be, let me know. We want to shout it from the rooftops, or - even better - help you to do it.
