Today marked the first day candidates could file the official paperwork to run for mayor, and Louisville businessman Greg Fischer was in bright and early to be the first to file.
Fischer is trying to make hay out of being first in line, sending out a release touting the “Sense of Urgency” that he says is one of his campaign values.
“It was important to me to be the first to file today because when it comes to leadership and a commitment to helping the community, actions speak louder than words,” Fischer said in the release.
Being first to file, though, will count for little when ballots are cast, but now is when the race for mayor gets real.
With Metro Council members Hal Heiner, Jim King and David Tandy, 8664 co-founder Tyler Allen and Louisville businessman Chris Thieneman – along with coffee shop owner Nimbus Couzin and community activist Connie Marshall – all having thrown their names in the mix earlier, now is put up or shut up time. It could be interesting to see if the low fundraising totals of some announced candidates will be enough to discourage them from actually filing to run - or if someone else comes out of the woodwork to run.
The deadline to file for the primaries is Jan. 26.
