Country station WAMZ-FM is bringing popular morning show host Chris Randolph back to town after a two-year absence.
Randolph spent nearly 20 years as a DJ on local stations, including WDJX, 98.9 KISS-FM, and 95-7 WQMF. In 2007 he left for WMTX-FM in Tampa, a Clear Channel station, like WAMZ. He starts there Dec.7, joining Mel Fischer on the 5-10 a.m. morning shift.
He replaces Bobby Jack Murphy, who left the station suddenly earlier this month, citing personal reasons. He'd been on the air in town 28 years.
Here's some quotes from the official news release:
WAMZ Program Director Coyote Calhoun had this to say: “We are very excited to add this experienced market veteran to the WAMZ morning show. Chris has enjoyed much success in Louisville. We feel very fortunate to have found someone who knows the market so well and loves its people.”
Clear Channel Louisville Market President Bill Gentry added, “I have had the pleasure of working with Chris for several years, and respect his commitment to serving the listeners of this community. It's good to see a well-liked Kentucky boy come back home.”
Commenting on his return to the city where he spent nearly 20 years on the air, Chris Randolph said, “The chance to work with Coyote Calhoun is a once-in-lifetime opportunity. He is one of the very reasons I'm in the business. I can't wait to get started at one of the most highly-rated, legendary Country stations in America.”
