A Series of Bad Excuses: Metro Animal Services has dumped an estimated 20,000 dog and cat carcasses at the Outer Loop landfill in the last three years, all because director Gilles Meloche refused to purchase a new incinerator, despite having money approved for it by Metro Council. Now he's trotting out spokesperson Jackie Gulbe to make excuses on camera. It's time to ask again -- Mayor Abramson, how can you justify keeping Meloche in place even for two more months?
Humana's Gravy Train: That 65 percent third quarter profit reported by Humana is getting some national attention, given its role in the ongoing heealth care reform debate. "It's no wonder why Humana has been misleading seniors about health insurance reform. They saw thier profits rise 65 percent last quarter and want to make sure the gravy train doesn't end," wrote an aide to Harry Reid.
