In late September, WHAS-TV introduced reporter Jacqueline McLean, whose background doing investigative work in larger markets (like Minneapolis) made her seem an ideal hire.
But McLean's last day at WHAS was Friday. Officially, station G.M. Mark Pimentel said McLean decided to go back to Minneapolis because of personal issues.
It's not really surprising that she didn't work out. First, she was hired by former news director Genie Garner, who left for a new job in Hawaii before McLean started at WHAS.
It's hard to say what went on off-camera, but on camera McLean seemed to have trouble with pronunciation of words and getting into the routine of producing daily stories. Her background, from what I've heard, was in doing longer pieces with plenty of time to do them.
As I reported Friday, Stephanie Collins, who has experience with both WHAS and WDRB here, has been hired on a temporary basis by WHAS. And news director Mark Neerman, from San Francisco, starts work on Nov. 11. Among his first duties, presumably, will be hiring a new reporter.
