It's all in the details at Ramsi's

I don't know how I missed this place.

I've lived in Louisville for 8 years and heard people rave about Ramsi's Café on the World hundreds, if not thousands of times. Yet paying a visit to Ramsi's today wasn't my idea. My lunch companion suggested it… and I am SO glad he did.

Ramsi's is located on Bardstown Road, smack in the middle of the Highlands. Yup, I know what you're thinking- do I want to risk the parking issues? I say to you my fellow divanistas - YES, YOU DO!

My culinary adventure started behind the café. A lovely man in a pick-up truck saw I was eyeing the parking situation and waved to me, indicating I could take his spot. SWEET! I just love when people recognize my divaness.

From the parking lot, I walked along the brick sidewalk between Ramsi's and the neighboring business. This was no ordinary walk, mind you. A Diva can definitely get lost in the multi-cultural, artistic flair of Ramsi's just from the alleyway and patio courtyard. So far, so good.

When I arrived at the front door, I was promptly greeted by a very cheerful hostess who actually had a conversation with me. She beamed with a beautiful smile and welcoming air. Quite a departure from other eateries in town where the verbal exchange is limited to the all important two-worded question of, "How many?" and your one word response.

The hostess took her time in picking out a table for me. Seeming to size up the vast expanse before her (no - not me, the dining room!) to ensure she seated me in the "best seat in the house". Very Divaesque!

My waiter, Jay, made me feel like a complete and total queen. I have visited many an eating establishment and feigned indecision, only to have the server become confused in suggesting items from the menu. Jay was definitely the exception and steered me toward the Roasted Garlic and Goat cheese appetizer. Grilled Cuban bread, pickled goat cheese in an olive oil drizzle, and roasted garlic. Bravo, Jay, on a great pick!

While waiting for my lunch partner, I took in the dining room décor. I felt like I was in a quaint Italian café, rather than in the middle of Louisville, Kentucky. Each wall is filled with artwork from all over the world. Moroccan reliefs, Chinese sculpture, local art, and an eclectic array of odds and ends that make the short wait for your food seemingly fly by.

Jay was attentive, but didn't hover. I like that in a waiter as well as a man. My iced tea glass didn't run empty and his chivalrous nature showed through. I'm tellin' ya ladies, if ya want to feel like a Diva, ask for Jay - he definitely knows how to treat a customer.

For my entre', I chose the Eggplant Boursin Panini. Not only did I get a HUGE sandwich, but it arrived with a side item that nearly spilled off the plate. Plain old chips? Not at Ramsi's. My plate overflowed with the most succulently roasted and herbed potato cubes this Diva has had in a long time. The subtle flavors of olive oil, rosemary, and roasted tomatoes tripped over my tongue. I was taken with the tastes, but appreciative that the portions were generous so I had leftovers for tomorrow.

Speaking of leftovers, how many times have you looked into your refrigerator at your restaurant remnants and wondered what it was and how old it might be? Jay made sure not to leave that to chance. He arrived back at the table with my box and had not only labeled the contents, but dated it! Ingenious.

Though I did not imbibe, I eyed the hand carved full bar as I left and pondered what fun my fellow Divas and I would have at our next girls' night out with Ramsi's as the first stop.

From the warm welcome and tasteful décor, to the fabulous food and service, Ramsi's attention to the details of a great eating experience clearly shines through. Take a moment out of your day to visit one of Louisville Dining Diva's top picks: Ramsi's Café on the World. And tell them the Louisville Dining Diva sent you.

So, my fellow Divanetts and Divanors, where should the Louisville Dining Diva eat next?

Caio, Bella!

I really like Ramsis, but there are a few dishes that I'd call a little dull. My advice would be to eat with a friend or two and then share your entrees around so you can begin to find your favorites.
