Remember Julie Smith from Southern Belles, the SoapNet reality TV series? You know, the one who wasn't quite as shallow as the rest of them? The one who didn't get as much air time because she didn't have a major crisis going on, like whether Daddy would approve of her career choice?
She's a new co-host on the CW's Louisville Live morning show, airing at 10 on weekday mornings.
The station, which recently moved to new studios at the Kaden Tower, is promoting Smith as part of its campaign of the "New WBKI."
Smith was a guest on the show in August to promote a charity event. She said one thing led to another, and now she's thrilled with her new job. "It was something I'd been thinking about. It worked out beautifully."
She said she is excited about continuing her sales career and starting the on-air career. Smith was most recently in a fundraising position with Metro United Way.
The station's top-rated show, its 10 p.m. newscast from WHAS-TV, has lately included stories produced by CW on-air reporters Becca White and Erica Benton.
Craig Hoffman, the morning show co-host and director of operations at the station, said Smith is also taking on the role of Account Executive in the station's sales department.
"Julie is a great addition to Louisville LIVE This Morning on WBKI-TV. It is clear she loves this community and is ready to have fun with viewers on our morning show," he wrote in an e-mail. "I am excited to work with her. Those watching will love her attitude, professionalism, and that contagious smile."
The station is no longer streaming the morning show on its website.
