In his upcoming book celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Monarchs, Billy Reed calls the band "Louisville's ambassadors of rock n' roll.

The book, which includes a DVD cut into the cover, will retail for $34.95 and be available at local stores starting next week. It's published by Butler Books.

Reed, a lifelong lover of oldies rock n' roll, is the author of the book, which includes some great photos and will be a popular nostalgia piece for locals. Billy says it's "about the band, but also about Louisville and Fontaine Ferry Park and sock hops and WAKY and, yes, some sports."

You've probably been to a function where the Monarchs were playing.

Here's the schedule of events related to the book: On Monday, Nov. 2 the Monarchs will be in concert at the Derby Dinner Playhouse and the book will be available for the first time.

Next Friday, Nov. 6, in conjunction with the First Friday Trolley Hop, there will be a book signing with Reed and members of the band at Fourth Street Live!

And on Nov. 7 there's a signing at the Book Fair in Frankfort.
