Happy Monday. Here's what's going on.

What Happens When You Run for Office: Everything you've ever done is fair game, even a 20-something-year-old divorce case. Friday the C-J published damaging information about Mayoral candidate Jim King from his 1981 divorce file, despite pleas from King and his ex-wife (he's remarried) and a judge's order to temporarily seal the file. But the C-J got a copy when the Jefferson Circuit Court gave it to the newspaper by mistake.

C-J publisher Bennie Ivory defended the paper's decision, while Judge Patricia Walker Fitzgerald accused the paper of trying to "run a sensational story about gossip. . ."

You Also Can't Be an ESPN Announcer: If you have an affair with a 22-year-old assistant. Steve Phillips was fired from ESPN because news of the affair, which had been a hot topic for days in New York tabloids, had left his effectiveness as an analyst "significantly and irreparably damaged."

Beshear's Plan to Piss Off Williams: As Governor, Steve Beshear has the power to appoint Republican senators to cushy job that pay better than their Senate seats. And then help elect Democrats to their seats, altering the balance of power in the Senate, and giving him a better chance at passing gambling legislation next year. Which is going to really irritate Senate president David Williams.

Got A Tip?: Councilman Kevin Kramer is pushing for more open government by promoting the new tip line (888-226-2264). So if you know of fraud or abuse in local government, you know, you should call the number, which is not being promoted too much by the administration.

Been a Long Time: A year ago, Rick Bozich pointed out Sunday, the U of L football team won a Big East game. Now they're losing to Cincy 41-10, the same kind of score Bobby Petrino's teams racked up on a weekly basis. The only criticism he got was for letting up at the end of games. No end in sight.

Stabbing Kittens: Congrats to WLKY's Andy Alcock for scoring an interview with a former vet at Metro Animal Services last week. His late Friday report should seal Meloche's fate. Not only did he allegedly sexually harass three women at MAS, he inhumanely "stabbed kittens in the heart with lethal drugs to put them down with no anesthetic. . . " That's against the law.
