way on a roll here - my fingers flying over the keyboard with little effort or thought - words just pouring out of me...and besides, the cat is comfortable in her usual pose when I am typing on mojo - on my lap with both legs draped over my right arm...as if inserting herself between Dad and all of those unworthy and undeserving female strumpets out in cyberspace...at least in her feline walnut sized brain...so I will persist and knock out this second to last entry on the Disney Trek 2009...
Hollywood Studios was the final of the 4 main parks we visited at DW, and easily my favorite...
the one downside was this was the easiest park to get lost in, and I did 3 times!! Once I had to even swallow my male pride and EGAD! ASK FOR DIRECTIONS! I know this will force me to forfeit my guy card for a month, and the only reason I took such drastic measures is we were running late for our lunch reservation and completely turned around in the amazingly realistic facades of "the Streets of New York"
If anything, this park is laid out like a triangle, with extensions off of each vertice, but even THAT description is confusing!
On the upside, HS had the most and most interesting rides, shows and attractions. Plus it had that GREAT evocative Art-Deco 30's Golden Age of Hollywood era architecture and styling and vibe...the "streets" were even named Hollywood Blvd, and Vine, and Sunset and such, and it was very easy to imagine yourself just having stepped out of a time capsule and back into that wonderful era...
most of the highlights of our day spent there have already been covered in prior entries, Tower of Terror, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, wonderful meals, Beauty and the Beast and Fantasma shows, my perv souvenir,
The Great Movie Show ride, taken just after dinner at twilight, was a hidden gem here.. (along with the "One Man's Dream" Walt Disney Museum - already covered) - the usual cars on a track carried you slowly through a tour of scenery and animatronics and live action and music featuring Hollywood icons, like Wizard of Oz, Bogey and Bacall, Jimmy Cagney, Signin' in the Rain and the like....
G knew nothing of these movies expect Wizard of Oz, which he is less than enthralled with...but still enjoyed the show...
One sharp young actress in a blonde wig did a WONDERFUL gun moll character, "hijacking" our ride car through a few of the scenes, and very seductively "threatening" to "fill us with lead if we stepped outta line Mis-tah" - until the studious looking original guidette in horn rims we had left the station with won they day and defeated the villianess...good stuff.
Toy Story Mania seemed to be the most popular ride in the park, judging by the lines, consistently 60-90 minute wait..but rightly so, it WAS a lot of fun, the cars took you through a series of electronic shooting arcades after you donned 3-D glasses (if I just had the 3-D glasses contract with Disney World, I could afford a whole archipeligo of private Islands in the South Pacific...no joke...)
The best part of this ride was that it was easy to see where your shots ended up, and correct them if they missed..I MEANT to let G "win" and score higher than me - with selfish motives (to avoid the inevitable 10 minute pout when he loses) - but I have to admit I got so caught up in the thrill of the ride I was pumped full of adrenaline while picking off ducks and plates and kewpie dolls and other targets...
We skipped the American Idol Experience, and also the Lights Motors Action live stunt show...as I am less than impressed with the current warbling, note milking ersatz Whitney Houston style of vocals which is en vogue these days, and also less than impressed with loud internal combustion engines and burning rubber...hey...we were on a time crunch, and there is plenty of both of those offerings available in everyday life in America if you are interested in them, which I am not...
I was disappointed though to find the "Sounds Dangerous" sound effects show starring Drew Carry (one of my faves) was closed for the season, as that did not strike me as a seasonal thing...maybe next time...
