If you think it would be a lot easier to get around downtown if they got rid of the darn one-way streets, your time for contributing to the discussion is upon us.
Experts have been studying and meeting and considering various scenarios for well over a year now, and today at Slugger Field (3:30 - 7:00 p.m.) you can take a look at the results.
Officials from ENTRAN, which developed the study, and the Downtown Development Corp. will be on hand to listen to your comments. And they want some public feedback, which is more than we can say for the Arena Authority, which is doing its own study of how cars are going to get in and out of the downtown arena when it opens next November. They're not having public meetings on traffic, however, instead asking that you submit ideas online.
But the idea of converting many downtown streets makes sense. It would reduce confusion for drivers and make getting to businesses easier. It also has the potential to cause more accidents from cars moving in opposite directions.
The study says converting six streets in its "Final Scenario" would cost $2.2 million. Most of the streets included are in the areas east of downtown, an area where the growing East Market district, known as NuLu, are located.
Here are the streets:
* Main Street -- 2nd to Story Ave.
* Jefferson Street -- I-65 to Baxter
* Liberty Street -- Jackson to Baxter
* Muhammad Ali -- Jackson to Chestnut connector
* Chestnut -- Jackson to Chestnut connector
* 3rd Street -- Main to Market
