Bobby Jack Murphy, the WAMZ morning DJ, is suddenly gone from Louisville radio. The station has already removed his Personality Page, though we found an archived copy.
Clear Channel Radio, the owner of WAMZ-FM, sent an e-mail to employees today indicating that Murphy is leaving to pursue other opportunities. He was on the air during his morning show Wednesday, but according to our sources parted ways with the station that afternoon.
His morning show sidekick, Mel Fischer, is still working for Clear Channel. The station didn't announce plans for the show. Clear Channel recently let DJs go from Louie FM when it automated that station to a new GenX Radio format.
The e-mail, sent by operations manager Kelly Carls, seems to be trying to counter rumors that Clear Channel initiated the change.
"Bobby Jack made the decision to leave due to his personal situation and to pursue other opportunities. It was not based on contract negotations. It was a personal decision.
"As always, I'm available to speak with any of our advertisers who may have questions or concerns. No other explanations should be offered or discussed."
Murphy has been working in local radio on the air for 28 years.
