The Beginning of the Beginning

An introduction is in order.

For three years, I've been operating a blog focused on Louisville news and media. It actually started Oct. 6, 2006, with the ominous headline: "Starting at Zero."

From there, The 'Ville Voice became quite a local phenomenon. It is mind-boggling to consider all the content I've written. With a focus on journalism with a smart-aleck attitude, I became a part of the city's media culture. I was able to be the first to break major local stories. Web traffic grew, and before you knew it there were millions of hits and page views.

And 3,197 posts later, I have decided to move on to something bigger, and better. The brains behind MetroMojo have a vision to build their business by becoming a local source for all sorts of content, including news. So they've brought me on board, and I've got a few ideas for getting there.

For those of you who follow my work, the good news is that my marching orders are to do pretty much the same thing I've been doing. I'll be writing about local issues and local people. I'm still looking forward to the Mayor's race. Local government continues to intrigue me.

For me, it all started when I decided to critique local media. That's not changing either. Some of the most-viewed stories on The 'Ville Voice involved personalities on local news stations, the decline of the Courier-Journal as the city's main news source, and other aspects of local media. I'll be covering those stories.

But I'll be doing it with a team of professionals on my side, and more resources to do it better. I'm even getting an iPhone. WITH the data package.

I can't wait to get started, which will happen as soon as I figure out how things work around here.

In conclusion, if you've been following my writing over at The 'Ville Voice, I hope you'll come along on my new adventure. Let me know what you think, and keep sending along those great story ideas. I should be able to get to more of them now.

I'll borrow from the A.J. Jacobs talk at the Idea Festival to close here: "Never say no to adventure, otherwise you'll lead a very dull life."

Good to see Rick getting his Mojo going! I will definitely add MOJO to my "check often" web sites now. Best of luck Rick!
