Rather than search for a perfect defense, which will never exist, counterterrorism strategists must use the many imperfect tools at their disposal to confront the many imperfect terrorist groups that they face. (Michael Levi, 2008)
One of the best solutions we have to confront terrorism as a whole is our citizens. We as a country have to get off our sorry butts and educate ourselves and then act accordingly. We must learn to take care of ourselves and our families because in the event of a huge disaster we as a country we will fall apart. Look at Katrina, the wind storm here in Louisville and surrounding areas, the ice storm – we fell apart- the government can't react fast enough in these situations. We must be more self reliant if we are to carry on and survive. We must depend on each other to do what is best for our family, friends and neighbors; otherwise we're going to fall flat on our faces.
Are you ready for a major crisis? Do you have a meeting place for your family or close friends to meet and the supplies to keep yourself alive? Police fire and EMS will not be able to protect everyone so you must be able to take care of yourself. A good citizen will be ready, willing and able to act when needed. This is something that has fallen to the way side and it is sad when you think how dependent we have become on the government. We are better than this, we are Americans; we are strong, resilient and innovative and we can overcome many great obstacles. We have survived through 2 world wars, 9/11 and many more natural disasters. We have helped numerous other nations get through horrible natural disasters and pull their lives back together, but if we can't take care of ourselves then we will soon no longer be able to help others. First and foremost we must be able to take care of ourselves. If everyone is ready for a horrible situation we will stand a much better chance of surviving and one of the basic things we can do to preserve the American way of life is to get off of foreign energy. By continuing to send 700 Billion dollars a year to foreign countries we jeopardize our own way of life, especially when those nations hate us.
The first step in our survival is upgrading our electrical grid to accept alternate forms of energy, whether it's Solar, wind, hydro or bio-fuels we need to get this new power grid online as soon as possible. We will be able to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and this is the first step towards our security. Once we get off of foreign oil we will again start to see things turn around, but as long as we ship billions over seas we are doomed. If we continue to look to our government to solve all of our problems we also are doomed. We don't need a big brother or a nosey father what we need is to have a government that will allow us to think, invent, and deal with the issues and problems that confront our country. We don't need to be held back, we need to be turned loose and allowed to use our creativeness to solve today's problems and say nay to those who would have us believe things that we know are false. If we must yell bull shit to get their attention then so be it. It's true some may be offended but everyone has to learn to deal with that situation. If one never gets offended, upset or disappointed what will happen to them if it does happen one day. When a person goes through life and gets their feelings hurt, stepped on, slapped around a little and someone kicks their ego damaged a bit they are more likely to know how to handle a similar situation in the future. If they go through life and everyone goes out of their way to protect their delicate sensibilities then when it does happen – and you know it will – they are liable to have a total meltdown; freak out, fall apart, maybe even implode. It is our duty as good citizens to help our family, friends and neighbors to deal with these situations and if we don't we will have a nation full of whiners, cry-babies and slackers and we all ready have more than enough of those people at this very moment, so let's embrace being politically incorrect because everyone being politically correct has helped us get into this situation in the first place. When we become afraid that we might hurt someone's feelings we assist them in becoming weak and unable to deal with everyday issues, this is a tragedy. What once was a country filled with hard working, rugged individuals has been reduced to a large number of lazy, ignorant people looking for a free ride and that is why we have lost our sense of self-respect. How can anyone have self-respect that doesn't make every effort to support themselves and their families? There use to be a time in this country when people looked out for themselves but also their neighbors and community. If every community would take care of their own we wouldn't need the Federal government to be in our everyday business. Our forefathers knew that it was extremely important to limit the power of the federal government but yet we have allowed it to creep in ever so slowly that now it's the giant pink elephant in the living room and no one wants to do the uncomfortable thing of talking about it. It's time that someone stands up and yells, BULL SHIT, but that might offend someone. Then again, what would be more offensive, hearing that word and saving our freedom or becoming a socialist nation – oops too late!
